The Eastern
Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) is the monetary authority of a group of six
independent Caribbean nations as stated at the bottom of this page. It was
founded in October 1983 in order to maintain the stability of the East
Caribbean dollar (EC$) and the integrity of the banking system in order to
facilitate the balanced growth and development of member states. Its
headquarters are located in the city of Basseterre, on the island of St.
Kitts. All of the ECCB members are also a part of the Organisation of
Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). |

ECCB is the
regional central bank oversees financial and banking integrity for the OECS
economic bloc of states. Part of the bank's oversight lends to maintaining
the financial integrity of the Eastern Caribbean dollar (XCD). Of all OECS
member-states, only the British Virgin Islands do not use the Eastern
Caribbean dollar as their de facto native currency. |
The purposes of the ECCB are:
To

and maintain monetary stability;
To promote
credit and exchange conditions and a sound financial structure conducive to
the balanced growth and development of the economies of the territories of
the Participating Governments; and
To actively
promote through means consistent with its other objectives the economic
development of the territories of the Participating Governments.
The governing bodies of the ECCB are the Monetary Council and the Board of
Directors. The Monetary Council is the highest decision making authority.
