The Central
Bank of Mauritania (French: Banque Centrale de Mauritanie, BCM) is the
central bank of Mauritania, in northwest Africa. The bank is located in
Nouakchott, just south of the Presidential Palace. The principal
objective of the CBL is to achieve and maintain price stability in the
Mauritania economy. |

To this end,
it seeks to preserve the purchasing power of the national currency; promote
internal and external equilibrium in the national economy; encourage the
mobilization of domestic and foreign savings and their efficient allocation
for productive economic activities; facilitate the emergence of financial
and capital markets that are capable of responding to the needs of the
national economy, and foster monetary, credit and financial conditions
conducive to orderly, balance and sustain economic growth and development.
The management of the Bank is conducted by an Executive Governor who is also
Chairman of the Board of Governors and a Deputy Governor who serves as
principal assistant to the Executive Governor. |

The Monetary Policy Council of the Central Bank of Mauritania seeks to achieve the
objectives of its mission through:
 Establish standards and general
conditions of the Bank's operations and determine the rates of interest and
commissions;
To accredit banks and other
financial institutions;
To accredit payment systems and
securities settlement;
Provide notice to the General
Council if needed;
Decide on the policy of
sanctions and withdrawal of approval of banks and other lending institutions;
and
Specify how to buy or sell,
loan or loan discount, making a pledge, take or repurchase debt and issue of
bonds bearing interest, and the nature and the extent of the guarantees
attached to loans made by the Central Bank.
In achieving the objectives above, the Bank commits itself to providing
effective support functions through a sound banking and financial control
system, appropriate information system and the development of competent and
qualified staff.
