The Bank of the Republic of
Haiti (French: Banque de la République d'Haïti, (BRH) is the central bank of
Haiti. According to the Organic Law of the OHR, the Board shall adopt
internal regulations of the bank which sets the policy and operation. It has
the power to formulate, direct and oversee monetary policy. It authorizes
the printing of banknotes and minting coins and determine the volume of
emissions in accordance with the law. |

It sets the general conditions
and limits on credit operations of the BRH and determines the general
conditions and procedures for carrying out foreign exchange transactions. It
recommends the quantitative limits to the amount of the loan portfolio and
investments by banks. It determines the types and categories of loans and
investments that financial institutions can perform.
The fundamental objects of the Bank of Republic of Haiti are to: |
♦ defend the internal and
external value of the currency;
♦ ensure efficiency, development
and integrity of the payments system;
♦ ensure the stability of the financial system; and
♦ act as banker, fiscal agent and treasurer of the state.
The Central Bank uses various instruments in
implementing monetary policy, which remains the fundamental objective of
price stability. Its main channel of monetary management has been more than
two years selling to banks instead of vouchers it issues. |
