established its presence in South Africa when it acquired ABN AMRO in late
2007. The acquisition brought to the region RBS’s considerable strengths in

reflected in 2010 when The Banker gave its Deal of the Year Award for the
role in the structuring of a loan to the South African paper company Sappi.
